ACPP hails PMB for Declaring June 12 Democracy Day and recognizing Abiola, Kingibe, Fawehinmi with national honors

Also commends national assembly for given conditions for the actualization of the Day

The Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for officially announcing June 12 as the new Democracy Day in the country.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that the nation’s Democracy Day would henceforth, hold on June 12 thereby replacing the customary ‘‘May 29”.

Prince Adesoji Masilo Adeleke, the Chairman of the association, gave the commendation through a press release issued and signed in Osogbo yesterday.

According to Prince Adesoji Masilo Adeleke “President Muhammadu Buhari has done what any past Nigerian President could not do by posthumously conferring highest national honour on the presumed winner of June 12, 1993, Presidential election, MKO Abiola.

Prince Adesoji Masilo Adeleke, the pioneer Chairman of IPAC in the state of Osun also praised the national assembly for given the conditions for the actualization and legalization of June 12 as the country’s Democracy Day.

He applauded the President for conferring GCON titles on Abiola’s running mate, Amb. Baba Gana Kingibe and human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) for their roles in the struggle to actualize June 12 presidential election.

On the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Prince Adesoji Masilo Adeleke noted that the late legal luminary single handedly took legal action against INEC that all candidates seeking for elective positions from Presidency to State Assembly should be exempted from paying any nomination fees and he magnanimously won the case.

Prince Masilo said all our elected political leaders past and present benefited immensely from this brave and courageous act of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

Prince Adesoji Masilo Adeleke
finally described President Buhari’s action with regards to declaration of June 12 as democracy day and award of the highest honour to late Chief MKO Abiola as nationalistic, fair, appropriate and audacious.
